The Club AGM
Every year, the Club has an AGM. This does not happen at a fixed location, but is usually held at the end of May or beginning of June. This is the opportunity for the members to meet up, vote on the committee members, ask questions of the committee and learn about the plans for the Club over the coming year.
The latest AGM was held at the Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford in Somerset on 7 June 2008.
The Committee page of the website has a listing of all the current committee members as voted for at the June 2008 AGM.
Any member can become a member of the committee, and there are a number of ways this can happen. First of all, a post may become vacant, or a new post is identified as necessary for the Club to function. Once this happens, if there is a long while before the next AGM and the post needs filling urgently, the committee can co-opt any member onto the post by a majority vote at a committee meeting.
Otherwise, the member could be nominated and voted for through the normal AGM process. Any nominee needs a proposer and a seconder, and must win a majority vote at the AGM. There are a few roles that can only be filled by someone who has previously been on the committee, but otherwise anyone is welcome to volunteer.
The other major attraction at the AGM is the Van of the Year award, which is decided during the AGM camp by the members in attendance voting for their top three vans. The van must attend the AGM and camp overnight, and the prize is presented at the BVF event by the President, Phil Shaw.
This year, the winner of the Van of the Year was Rex Bale with his porcelain white bay camper. Hopefully, Rex will provide a write-up for us to add to the website shortly. Well done Rex! His van is in lovely condition, which takes a lot of effort to maintain given the colour, but it is still used as it was intended on regular camping trips.
