I am on the committee that is organising the Highworth Festival.  We are a town just north of Swindon (Wiltshire).  Every 4 years (on the leap year) we have a festival.  This is usually centred around the main festival weekend, which this year is 20/21 September. 

There is a procession around the town at 1.45 in the afternoon of the Saturday.  (There are events going on all day in and around the High Street and Market Square.)  We usually have a group from the Morris Minor OC who join in.  This is the first year I have beeen on the committee but as a Bay owner I was not going to be left out!  I suggested getting in touch with vwT2oc and they liked the idea!  We have also secured parking in the High Street (closed off for the day) for anyone wishing to come for the day (set up about 9, stay till 4.30ish) and put their pride and joy on display - ours will certainly be there!  This is not going to be a major VW event, we just wanted to be represented.  There will be no prizes offered, just the chance to put your T2 on display and talk about it!

I do hope people will read this and decide to come.  I'm not expecting people from miles around, just hopefully a few local(ish) people who would like a day out.  If you would like to come and join us and want directions, or would like more info please continue this thread and I will do my best to answer your questions.

17/08/2008 00:31		 We'd really like to be part of this - my late father spent a lot of his younger years living in Highworth (his parents owned The Elms). 20th September was his birthday and, as a matter of fact, I've found slides of what appears to be the 1976 Highworth festival among his belongings, only a few days ago. Anyway, our van isn't a show winner but it's used every day and much loved. We'd be very proud to be a part of the festival. The van's even got a Swindon registration number... Photobucket Colin

Wow - what a coincidence!  We would love to have you join us on this special day.  It would be great if you could bring the old brochure too - it would be interesting to see what was happening in the 76 festival.  Thanks very much for getting in touch.

Hi Sally W,

Just checking a couple of things.

Firstly is it still on to come along to the Highworth Festival.  I see in the Swindon Guide that the Festival is on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  You just want us on the Saturday though, arriving at about 8:30 to 9:00?

Secondly is it OK if I make this the first 'get together' of the Swindon VW group - simply in terms of chatting to the others there (including yourself) and seeing if we can make an arrangement for another 'meet' or anything.  Please say if you don't think this is in order.
