Members in Yorkshire - near Leeds?

I have seen loads of type 2 vans on my way into work recently around the Bradford/Leeds area.  Is anyone interested in going to a pub or park or cafe and seeing how many of us turn up?

I'm sure that I have seen at least one with a VWT2OC sticker in the window (that I didn't recognise from people/vans I have already met).

OK - specifically does anyone out there own any of the following:

A bright yellow panel van T2 bay, a dark green and white camper bay (these two park next to each other most mornings!)?

A dark blue and white bay camper heading back to Leeds in the evening, or a green and white bay with a bright orange gerbera on the wheel cover also heading back to Leeds?

A powder blue splitty heading into Leeds in the morning?

Hi there!  That's great.  I only wrote about those vans because at least two of them have Club stickers in the windows - I checked one of them while it was parked and the sticker count is rising...

We're a bit busy now, taking the club shop to three different events on three consecutive weekends, but I think it would be good to publish a date and a location and see who turns up.

Watch this space!

Hi All

My girlfirend and I have just bought our 1st camper - Shelley, a '71 Dormobile.  Shelley is dark blue and white and may have been seen on our way back into Leeds on Sun 18th following a tour of the south, however after a tiresome journey she decided she didn't want to drive and would rather be given a lift and so we would have been seen on the back of a tow truck!!

As new owners of a VWT2 we are keen to start picking any useful info to help us get to know our van better.

Cheers

Andy

Do you happen to know what it was that caused Shelley to end up on a tow truck?  It does help you get started!  ;)

If you can identify the problem, we can start to help you.  In Leeds, there is a parts supplier called German Swedish French (a.k.a. GSF) on Kirkstall Road near Eddie Wright's motorbike stores.  If you are a Club member and show your membership card, you might be able to get some discount if you know what parts you need.

If the repairs are beyond your abilities with a spanner, then you could go to Herbie Hospital which is near St James' hospital - the exact address I will have to find and get back to you, unless you Google it.  Make sure, though, that you get a competitive quote.  I am loathe to promote Herbie Hospital just because they do classic VWs, because it may be that somewhere else specialising in the kind of problem you have could do the repairs just as easily.

If you are brave and have a bit of technical experience or common sense, quite a few fairly vital repair jobs are possible with a manual and a few tools.

I'm sure that if you are Club members, the technical team will be able to give you more in-depth help.  You can email or call them using the details in the Club magazine, Transporter Talk.

If we were available over the next two weeks, we might even come around and give you some assistance!

Hi Clare, thanks for the reply.

The problem was traced to the ignition system and we ended up replacing dist cap, rotor arm, points, condensor, leads and plugs and gave her a basic service and a good lookover as the van is new to us.

We have found a great guy who works off Tong Road, Martin (BMC-Mart) for his plug ;-) who works primarily on classic British cars but also deals with VW's.  We got the parts from GSF but our membership details are yet to arrive.

Cheers

Andy

If anyone is interested how does the first Wednesday in the month sound for a meet at Roundhay Park in Leeds (September 3rd). There is plenty of parking, plenty of take-aways restaurants, and pubs nearby and its fairly easy to get to. I was thinking about 7PM. If anyone wants to come or choose a more appropriate venue please post and lets 'get it on !'
